In the full official trailer, we hear a-ha’s Magne Furuholmen explain, “’True North’ is a letter from our home to the world. It was inspiring to look at this as a performance within a film that would somehow have a narrative attached to the topic of these songs. “
Premium content from Sony Music Entertainment and Trafalgar Releasing on Thursday launched the full official trailer for a-ha’s upcoming movie, “True North,” which accompanies their new studio album of the same title. True North will be released in selected cinemas around the world on Thursday 15 September, with the album following on Friday 21 October. This film will also include a special behind-the-scenes featurette, exclusive to theaters. Watch the full official trailer here.
A press release noted: “The original idea for ‘True North’ was for the Norwegian trio, consisting of Morten Harket, Paul Waaktaar-Savoy and Magne Furuholmen, to record their first session at the stunning studio location just 90km above the Arctic Circle, then to film it. Eventually, the project expanded into more than one production, and they were joined by the talented Norwegian Arctic Philharmonic orchestra. What came out of these sessions is a magnificent album, and a corresponding film, which describes in detail the band’s vision of a collective connection with the environment “.
“‘True North’ is a letter from a-ha, from the Arctic Circle, a poem from the far north of Norway,” said Furuholmen.

The press release continued: “In the recurring skits, the multidimensional film ‘True North’ follows this story arc through actors portraying life in the north and documenting the band recording music over two days in Bodø, Norway. This is a unique a-ha release that embodies the spirit of their new songs, with longtime a-ha collaborator Stian Andersen at the helm as director. “
He said: “It was an honorable assignment to direct the film ‘True North’. It was also a great pleasure to write and create the plot to match a-ha’s beautiful songs in this film.”
Since their world breakthrough with “Take On Me” in 1985, a-ha have continued to adapt and evolve. Now, with what is both their 11th studio album and documentation of its creation, a-ha have entered a new phase.
“First, we had the idea of recording a live studio session,” Waaktaar-Savoy said. “Then, to film a session in the studio. It became more of a production with the Norwegian orchestra, the Arctic Philharmonic, with whom we collaborated. “
The press release read: “’True North’ is the most revealing, most personal and most touching band. Never before has the spirit of a-ha been so exposed ”.
“True North” is produced by Aparent in collaboration with Sony Music Germany, Bodø2024 and Aker Horizons and distributed by Sony Music Entertainment’s Premium Content Division. The film is released in theaters worldwide by Trafalgar Releasing.
The film “True North” will be released in select theaters around the world on September 15 via Trafalgar Releasing. It will be screened locally at the North Park Theater, 1428 Hertel Ave., Buffalo.
