Delicious Dessert To Start Outdoor Season

(NAPSI)—For barbecue lovers, the season can’t start too early. As daylight hours get longer, the action heats up and the season can last well into the frosty days of fall. But the standard fare of such traditionally warm-weather gatherings—grilled meat and veggies—deserves to be followed with a delicious chilled dessert.

One tasty way to kick off the outdoor season is with Strawberry Lemonade Pie, a light summer dessert with a nontraditional twist. Like many crowd-pleasing desserts, this recipe uses Karo Syrup to add just the right amount of sweetness.

Strawberry Lemonade Pie
Prep time: 25 minutes
Bake time: 30 minutes
Chill time: 2 hours
Yield: 8 servings

1 (9-inch) unbaked pie crust

¾ cup sugar

3 tablespoons all-purpose flour

4 eggs

½ cup Karo Light Corn Syrup

? cup lemon juice

¼ teaspoon vanilla extract

2 tablespoons Karo Light Corn Syrup

1 teaspoon lemon juice

1 teaspoon freshly grated lemon peel

3 cups thinly sliced strawberries

Sweetened whipped cream and thinly sliced lemon, optional

Fit pie crust into a 9-inch tart pan with removable bottom and trim the edge OR a 9-inch pie pan and flute the edge. Line the crust with a double sheet of foil. Bake in preheated 350ºF oven for 10 minutes. Remove foil and cool slightly.

Combine sugar and flour in a medium bowl. Add eggs, ½ cup corn syrup, ? cup lemon juice and vanilla. Beat until smooth. Pour into partially baked shell. Bake about 30 minutes until filling is golden brown. Cool. Refrigerate at least 2 hours.

Combine remaining 2 tablespoons corn syrup, 1 teaspoon lemon juice and lemon peel. Cover and set aside. Just before serving, arrange sliced berries on top of baked filling and drizzle with lemon mixture. Top each serving with whipped cream and a lemon slice, if desired.

(NAPSI)—Approximately 1.2 million people in the U.S. live with Type 1 diabetes.

Typically diagnosed in childhood, people with Type 1 diabetes have a pancreas that is unable to produce insulin, a hormone that regulates blood sugar, or glucose. Therefore, they must take insulin injections or use an insulin pump. Most people understand that having diabetes means carefully monitoring food intake and taking insulin to prevent the long-term complications associated with high blood glucose. But people with diabetes and their families will tell you it’s actually low glucose, called hypoglycemia, that keeps them up at night—literally.

Parents of children with diabetes spend a lot of time monitoring glucose levels and adjusting insulin dosages and carbohydrate intake (because carbohydrates turn into sugar when processed by the body). KK Kessel is an 11-year-old with Type 1 diabetes who’s had two seizures as a result of nighttime hypoglycemia. His mother, Britta Bushnell, says, “The constant vigilance required to care for a child with Type 1 diabetes is beyond what most people can know.”

Technology available to help these families manage diabetes includes insulin pumps—small external devices that deliver insulin around the clock—and continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) systems that measure glucose levels every five minutes and deliver alerts based on those levels.

In addition, the most recent innovation is the first-of-its-kind mySentry™ Remote Glucose Monitor, which could dramatically change nights for parents of children with diabetes. When used with an integrated insulin pump and CGM system, mySentry allows parents to see real-time insulin pump status and glucose trends—and hear alerts and alarms at their bedside—while their child sleeps in his or her own room.

4 cups fresh Chilean blueberries

1½ lbs. (6 medium) ripe Chilean nectarines, pitted and cut in eighths

Preheat oven to 350° F. In the bowl of a food processor, combine flour, ¼ cup of the sugar, butter, baking powder and salt. Pulse until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Set aside 1 Tbsp. of the cream. Add the remaining cream to flour mixture; process until dough starts to form a ball, scraping sides of bowl as needed. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface; gently pat it together. Divide dough into eight 2-inch balls; flatten into rounds; wrap and refrigerate at least 20 minutes. In a shallow 2½-quart baking dish, combine blueberries, nectarines and 3 Tbsp. of the sugar. Arrange dough rounds on top. Brush rounds with reserved cream; sprinkle with remaining 1 Tbsp. sugar. Bake until the filling bubbles and the topping has browned, about 50 minutes. Serves 8. Serve warm with ice cream, if desired.

Lots of people all over the USA just love a great pork steak,Country ham, center cut pork-chops.
For last 15 years I would shop at my local grocery store, and be very disappointed at the
quality and value of what you get in those store packed containers of meat.

A good pork chops that’s not too thin, not too thick, not too much fat and not a lot of bone.
That’s not asking too much, but after shopping at the grocery stores and seeing the nicely
packaged packs of pork on display at the meat counter, and buying and serving to the family
for so long and just dealing with the fact that in each package of 5 to 10 pounds 1/3 to 1/2 of the pork is fat, bone and mixed lean, fat, that looks like throw away scraps.

We went to 4 of the major grocery supermarkets in Raleigh and surrounding area’s and purchased 2 packages of pork chops about 7 to 10 pounds per package, from each store,
we found that all four stores was doing the same thing. Each package had the top of the package displayed very nice, the meat looked great through the plastic wrap but under the top layer was, what my sister calls, “scraps for dogs food” not what you want to eat.

Each package had only 1/2 to 2/3 of edible meat in them, this is a practice that’s been happening for years, and it could be an industry practice across the board.

Well what can you do? Write you grocery store, call your consumer BBB, your local government, complain to the USDA or don’t shop that store.

The condition that no one’s talking about – what all men with diabetes need to know

(ARA) – The abundance of treats during the holidays can make it a challenge for men to watch their waistlines and stay consistent with their diets, which can be especially dangerous for men with diabetes. That is why the holiday season is an important time for these men to get informed about the other health issues that can come with their disease. According to data from the American Diabetes Association, approximately 12 million men in the United States have diabetes, and many of these men do not realize that they may be at risk for other serious conditions.

Research has shown that men suffering from diabetes may be at increased risk for a condition called hypogonadism, more commonly known as low testosterone. This is because men with diabetes have lower levels of testosterone than those without diabetes.

(ARA) – The death rate from diabetes continues to climb. Since 1987, the death rate due to complications from diabetes increased by 45 percent, while death rates due to cancer, heart disease, and stroke have declined.

November is American Diabetes Month, a time to communicate the seriousness of diabetes and the importance of diabetes prevention and control. For years, the American Diabetes Association has used this month as an opportunity to raise awareness of the disease and its serious complications.

In 2009, the Association launched a national movement to Stop Diabetes – with the goal of gathering the support millions of Americans to help confront, fight and most importantly, stop diabetes. In keeping with the movement’s goal, the association encourages individuals to get involved by sharing, acting, learning and giving.

As of mid-September, more than 630,000 people had joined the movement. The Association’s goal is to gather 1 million supporters by the end of December. Tuesday Ross is one of these more than 630,000; Ross joined after being diagnosed with diabetes this year.

“My whole life has changed,” says Ross. “Diabetes truly alters your body, mind and soul, and puts such an emotional stress on you. I want to stop diabetes because I realize now that I have not been issued a death sentence. I watch what I eat and try to get exercise every day. I choose to fight this disease until there is a cure.”

The Stop Diabetes movement encourages individuals to get involved by sharing, acting, learning and giving. Here are ways to join the movement this November:
