ENDING SEASON ON HIGH NOTE: Carolina’s Chris Volstad outdueled Tennessee’s Jeff Samardzija as the Mudcats closed the 2007 season with a victory Monday over the Smokies at Five County Stadium in Zebulon.Volstad (4-2) allowed three runs — two earned — on seven hits and a walk, fanning two in five innings for his 12th overall win this season. The right-hander went 8-9 with a 4.50 ERA in 20 outings at Class A Advanced Jupiter (Fla.). Rich Dorman pitched the ninth for his first save.
